Type your text above and the GIF that types it out appears straight away, letter by letter, with a blinking cursor at the end. Change the font, colors, speed or size and it is made again. The preview is the GIF itself, so what you see is exactly what you download. It's free, with no signup or watermark, and your text never leaves your browser.
How the typing looks
- Letter by letter, at the speed you set, from 3 to 30 characters a second. Like a person typing, it pauses a little after commas and longer after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
- A cursor follows the last letter: a thin bar, a block like an old terminal, or none. At the end it blinks while the text stays on screen for the pause you choose.
- Delete it and type again removes the text twice as fast as it was typed, so a looping GIF starts over cleanly. Untick it to keep the finished text on screen.
- Loop forever or play once. A GIF that plays once stops on its last frame.
Fonts, colors and sizes
Typewriter is a monospaced font, every letter the same width, the classic typing look. Sans, Serif and Display suit headlines and messages. Pick any text and background color, or a transparent background for placing the GIF over something else.
| Size | Pixels | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Wide | 480 × 270 or 720 × 405 | Chat messages, posts and slides |
| Square | 480 × 480 or 1080 × 1080 | Social feeds and profile posts |
| Story | 1080 × 1920 | Vertical stories and full-screen phones |
| Banner | 728 × 90 | The standard leaderboard web banner |
The letters are sized to fill the space, smaller for longer text. Center or left-align the lines; they are laid out once from the full text, so nothing moves while it types.
Why the file stays small
A GIF stores every frame, but a typing animation changes only one letter at a time. After the first frame, each frame here keeps just the area that changed and leaves the rest as it was, so a long sentence costs little more than a short one. The colors are a smooth ramp from the background to the text color, which keeps the edges of the letters soft without a large palette. To shrink any other GIF, use the GIF compressor.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a typing text GIF?
Type your text in the box, choose the font, colors and size, and the GIF that types it out appears straight away. Change anything and it is made again. Select Download GIF to save it.
Can the background be transparent?
Yes. Tick Transparent background and only the letters and the cursor are drawn. A GIF pixel is either transparent or solid, so the edges of the letters are hard; on a background color they stay smooth.
How big is the GIF file?
Small. After the first frame, each frame stores only the letters that changed, and the colors are a short ramp from the background to the text color. The sample sentence at 480 × 270 pixels comes to about 13 KB, and the size of yours is shown under the preview before you download.
Can it type more than one line?
Yes. Long text wraps onto new lines on its own, and pressing Enter starts a new line. The text is laid out once, so letters never jump while it types, and the size of the letters adjusts so everything fits.
Does it work with other languages and emoji?
The four fonts cover the Latin alphabet. Letters they don't have, from other scripts or emoji, are drawn with your device's own fonts, so check the preview before you download.
Is it free? Is there a watermark?
It's free, with no signup and no watermark. The GIF is drawn in your browser, so your text isn't uploaded anywhere.
