remove.bg removes backgrounds on its website, in a desktop app and through an API. Its free downloads are previews of up to 0.25 megapixels, and a full-resolution cutout costs one credit, with subscriptions starting at $9 a month for 40 credits. The bigger news comes from remove.bg itself: as of September 2026, it says its standalone website will no longer be available from December 1, 2026, with background removal moving to Canva and API access to Leonardo.Ai. Canva
Canva's BG Remover lives inside its design editor, next to templates, text and stock photos. As of September 2026, Canva's help center lists it as a paid-plan feature, and its PNG maker page offers free accounts one free use. The help center also says photos above 10MP are downscaled to 10MP after the background is removed. Canva is the better pick when the cutout is going straight into a flyer or social post, or when you need to clear a folder of up to 50 images at once on a paid plan. Adobe Express
Adobe Express includes background removal and transparent PNG export in its Free plan, as of September 2026, so price is not the main difference. You sign in with an Adobe account and upload the photo, the quick action accepts files up to 40 MB and 4k x 4k at import, and Adobe lists its Erase tool, which it suggests for refining cutouts, under Premium at US$9.99 a month. Photoroom
Photoroom is an AI photo editor aimed at sellers and brands, with phone apps, Batch Mode, AI backgrounds and shadows, and an API. According to its help center, the Free plan allows 100 exports a month, exports up to 2000 × 2000 pixels on the web app and cannot be used for commercial use, while its pricing page lists Pro at $7.50 a month billed yearly. What these tools offer that Background Remover PNG does not
Between them, these products offer batch processing, APIs, accounts with cloud storage, mobile apps, AI-generated backgrounds and video background removal. Background Remover PNG has none of these. It does one job: a single, full-size cutout that never leaves your device, with an erase and restore brush, a remove-a-color tool and a choice of backgrounds to finish it. If your work depends on any of those extra features, one of the four is the better fit, and each comparison says which.
How to choose
Start with what happens after the cutout. If the image is going into a design you are building anyway, the editor you already use, whether Canva or Adobe Express, saves a step.
