Photos that make the cleanest cutouts
The AI has the easiest job when the subject stands apart from what's behind it: good light, sharp focus, and a background that differs in color or brightness. Is a transparent background generator the same as a background remover?
For this job, yes. A background remover takes the background away, and the empty space it leaves is the transparency. Nothing new is generated: if you want something behind the subject, you pick a color, a blur of the original or a picture you supply.
Does it work with animated GIFs?
Not on this page, which works on still images: an animated GIF opens as its first frame and comes back as a single transparent PNG. For an animation on a plain background, the GIF background remover clears the color from every frame and keeps the animation.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
Free automatic photo cutouts send a reduced copy, without its file name or location data, for online processing, and we don't store it. Max, the one-credit full-size re-cut, uses a temporary copy deleted after processing; its masks expire after 24 hours. Why is my transparent PNG a bigger file than the photo I started with?
PNG is lossless and also stores an alpha channel for the transparency, so it usually weighs more than a JPG with the same pixel dimensions. Trimming empty space and resizing to the width you need both shrink the file.
