Drop a video into the box above, choose up to 10 seconds of it and select Remove background. The page reads each frame, cuts out the subject and plays the result over a checkerboard, so you can see what is now transparent. Then keep the background transparent or replace it with white, black or green, and download the clip as a GIF, as PNG frames or as a video. Everything happens in your browser: the video is never uploaded, and there is no signup or watermark.
How it works
- Choose the part to use. Set the start time and a length of up to 10 seconds. The video player shows where you are.
- Choose frames per second and size. 10 frames per second at 480 pixels wide is a good start. The page shows how many frames that makes.
- Remove the background. Each frame is cut out in turn, with a progress bar and an estimate of the time left. Stop ends the run at any point.
- Check and download. The result loops in the preview. Switch the background to see the edges on different colors, then download.
Which videos work best
The cutout looks for the main subject in each frame, the way the photo background remover does for a single image. It works best when:
- One subject stands out, such as a person talking to the camera, a pet or a product on a table.
- The background is distinct from the subject in color or brightness. No green screen is needed.
- Movement is moderate. Fast motion blurs the subject's edges, and blurred edges are hard to separate in any single frame.
Because every frame is cut out on its own, fine details such as flyaway hair can change slightly from one frame to the next and shimmer a little in motion. Short clips with a clear subject give the cleanest loops.
Choosing a download
- GIF plays almost everywhere: chats, messages, websites and slides. A GIF pixel is either fully transparent or fully solid, and a GIF holds at most 256 colors per frame, so soft edges come out crisp and photos are dithered with fine dots.
- PNG frames (ZIP) keep the full soft edges. Video editors can import numbered PNG files as an image sequence, and each frame is also a regular transparent PNG.
- Video saves the clip at its real speed. With a transparent background it is a WebM file, and the page checks whether your browser kept the transparency; with a white, black or green background it is an MP4 where the browser can record one, otherwise a WebM.
None of the downloads include sound.
Frames per second and size
More frames per second give smoother motion but take longer, because each frame is a separate cutout: 10 seconds at 15 frames per second is 150 cutouts. 10 frames per second suits most clips, and 5 is enough for slow movement or a quick test.
Size sets the width of the result, from 320 to 720 pixels; smaller videos are never enlarged. Larger frames show more detail but make bigger files, and the page stops you before a clip would need more memory than a browser can safely hold.

Every frame is cut out separately, so 50 frames take about as long as 50 photos. The first frame also waits for the cutout tool to load. A computer is usually much faster than a phone, and fewer frames per second or a shorter length finishes sooner.

No. The video is read and processed inside your browser tab, so it never leaves your device, and the tool is free with no signup or watermark.
