Using the tool
Editing and Preview downloads up to 0.25 megapixels are free without an account, for personal or commercial work. Free background removal is processed online by our hosting provider from a reduced copy of your photo, which we don't store. Online processing has daily limits; after them, or when it is busy or unavailable, free processing continues on your device. Larger Max exports use one credit per image. In the main photo editor and batch studio, choosing Max uploads a copy of the image, without its file name or location data, to be re-cut by our high-resolution model; that input is deleted after processing. Format conversion, resizing, compression and circle cropping remain free. The privacy policy explains local storage, optional uploads and deletion.
Image credits and purchases
The pricing page lists monthly plans and one-time packs in US dollars. Checkout confirms the price, currency, applicable taxes, billing interval and allowance before you pay. Stripe Managed Payments handles checkout. No signup is required before payment. Credits become available in the checkout browser once payment is confirmed. Use the checkout email to restore purchases on another device. Never send card details or sign-in codes to support.
One credit includes cloud background removal and the available full-size exports of one image. The high-resolution model can produce different edges from the free preview; inspect the result and refine it with the brush. Existing edits are retained. Local-only tools and images above the cloud limit instead unlock larger exports of the existing local cutout. Editing and repeat downloads while that image stays open use no additional credit. Reopening a source file starts a new image. A saved batch project preserves its image identity and corrections. Source and device limits still apply: cloud input is at most 16 megapixels, and batch output at most four megapixels. Cloud results can be retrieved for 24 hours from job creation. Save Max in a batch project to retain that mask after expiry. Your account stores purchases, not a photo library or recoverable editing sessions.
Renewals, expiry and cancellation
Monthly plans renew automatically until canceled. Their unused credits expire at the end of the paid billing period. One-time packs do not renew and their credits have no expiry. Available monthly credits are used before pack credits. Each account can have one active subscription.
Use Change plan in your account to review another available monthly plan. A confirmed change starts at the next renewal at the displayed price, plus applicable tax. There is no immediate charge or proration, and existing credits keep their original expiry. You can remove a pending change with Keep current plan. If a change is pending, Cancel renewal removes it and opens Stripe for your final cancellation confirmation.
Use Manage payments & subscriptions in your account to cancel future renewals or review payments. Cancellation leaves the current paid allowance available until that billing period ends. It does not automatically refund the current period or turn monthly credits into non-expiring pack credits.
Failed exports and refunds
Free processing and Preview downloads use no credit. A cloud job reserves one credit before upload and spends it when processing succeeds. A failed, canceled or expired unfinished job returns the credit to its original allowance with its original expiry. Cancellation can race a completed result; a completed job remains paid and available. Retrying the same job never reserves a second credit. If the browser cannot save a completed result, retry its download in the same tab within the retrieval window. Local-only Max spends a credit when the export is unlocked. A batch Max ZIP processes new cloud images in sequence: completed images remain paid and available even if a later image fails or needs more credits. Retry the remaining images without paying again for completed ones. Previously issued cloud jobs keep their original download-time credit rules.
For a missing purchase, unusable export or refund request, contact help@backgroundremoverpng.com with the purchase email and approximate date. We will review the purchase and help resolve it. Refunded credits are removed from the balance. Nothing in these terms limits refund or cancellation rights required by applicable law.
API
The API spends the same image credits under these terms. A full-size result above 0.25 megapixels uses one credit. Each account gets 50 free previews a month; after that, one credit covers four previews. Errors use no credits, and the same image sent again within 24 hours is not charged again. API keys need an email-verified account. Keep keys on your own server and revoke a leaked key in your account; you are responsible for requests made with your keys. Each key has a rate limit, currently 300 output megapixels a minute. Send only images and image addresses you are allowed to use. We may change the limits, or suspend a key used to overload the service or break these terms.
Account access
Sign in with the same email address to recover your credits on another device. Codes expire after ten minutes. You can sign out on this device or all devices in your account. Contact support if you lose access to the email you used; signing in never restores photos from a closed browser tab.
Your images and results
You keep all rights to the images you open and the files you create. You permit us and our processing providers to handle an uploaded copy only to provide the requested service; we do not claim ownership or use your images for model training. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to edit and use the images you work with — for example, that you own the photo or have permission from whoever does — and for how you use the results.
Acceptable use
Please do not use the site to break the law, to infringe other people's rights, or to interfere with the site itself — for example by overloading it with automated requests, using free online processing through scripts or other automation, probing it for vulnerabilities, or copying it wholesale. Automated requests through the documented API, within its limits, are welcome.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". Automatic background removal is not perfect: results depend on the photo, and some edges or details may need correcting with the brush tools. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. Check your results before relying on them.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit or business, arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Open-source components
The site uses open-source software and an open-source AI model under their own licenses. They are listed on the licenses page.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will show when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
