U.S. passport photo maker

Make a passport photo print sheet from a photograph you already have. This tool crops and sizes the frame, then places two copies on the paper you choose. It preserves your original file and offers no background replacement, facial retouching or AI enhancement. The preview and downloads are made in your browser; your photo does not leave your device.

Start with the right photograph

For U.S. paper applications, the State Department’s photo requirements specify a recent color photo, a plain white or off-white background and a clear view of your face. The printed photograph measures 2 × 2 inches. The chin-to-top-of-head distance is 1 to 1⅜ inches. The official photo tool permits cropping for applications made in person or by mail. That does not permit replacing a background or changing your appearance. If the original has a distracting backdrop or poor lighting, take another photograph.

Frame without stretching

The square preview starts with the largest square that fits inside your original. Zoom makes that square smaller, so your head occupies more of it. Drag the photograph to reposition it, or open Position with sliders for keyboard-operable horizontal and vertical controls. A slider becomes unavailable when the crop already spans that entire dimension: there is no spare picture to move into view.

Place the two guide lines yourself. Their readout converts the space between them to inches in a two-inch print. The marks stay attached to the same points on the original photograph when you zoom or reposition it, so the printed-distance readout changes with the crop. A notice appears if a mark moves outside the frame. It only measures your marks; it cannot tell where your head actually begins or ends. Use the full head, not just the face or hairline. Toggle the guides off to inspect the plain result. Reset framing returns to the centered starting crop.

The dimension line shows how many original pixels remain inside your selected crop. The tool keeps at least 600 pixels on each side and stops zooming when it reaches that limit. It never invents detail by enlarging a smaller crop. A photograph can still be blurry even when its dimensions are large enough.

Print the exact size

Choose Home printer, then 4 × 6 inches, US Letter or A4 to match the actual paper in your printer. Every PDF places two photographs in squares measuring exactly 144 PDF points, equivalent to two inches. Paper choice changes the sheet, not the photo size. The single JPG is 600 × 600 pixels, with 300 pixels-per-inch metadata.

Select Actual size or 100% in your PDF viewer’s print settings. Turn off automatic fitting, borderless expansion and any printer enhancement. Those settings can change the physical size or appearance even when the downloaded file is correct. Use matte or glossy photo-quality paper. On the printed sheet, check the one-inch ruler with a physical ruler and measure both sides of a photo before cutting along the marks.

For a print service that accepts JPGs, choose Photo service. This downloads the complete 4 × 6 inch sheet at 1,200 × 1,800 pixels and 300 ppi, including two 600-pixel photo squares, cut marks and the ruler. Order one 4 × 6 inch print and keep the entire sheet visible in the order preview. Turn off cropping, automatic enhancement and borderless expansion. If the service cannot preserve the whole sheet at its original size, use another print method. Measure the delivered photos before using them.

The separate Single photo · JPG button still saves just the cropped 600 × 600 pixel photograph. Use a 2 × 2 inch print size for that file. Sending the single square photo as a full 4 × 6 inch print produces the wrong size. Switching print methods keeps your framing and remembers your PDF paper choice.

Supported files and privacy

Choose a still JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MiB, 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. Both sides must be at least 600 pixels. Transparent images and animations are rejected. Keep a copy in a supported format from your original capture; the separate HEIC converter can help you inspect an iPhone file’s format without changing its background. This tool does not judge whether an earlier edit already altered a photograph.

The saved JPG is a newly encoded crop, so it omits the original’s camera and location metadata. The original file on your device remains intact. Clear photo releases the open photo; there is no account gallery or automatic saved project. For ordinary pixel dimensions outside this print workflow, use the image resizer.

Renewing online uses a different workflow

For online renewal, use the State Department’s digital-photo instructions. Its application handles repositioning and cropping. Keep your original for that process instead of uploading this print sheet. This page is an independent preparation tool, not an official application service.
